The Hope Lodge in Charleston gives cancer patients and their caregivers a completely free place to stay while receiving treatment — and this one is historic, the very first Hope Lodge ever built in the country, established in 1970. American Cancer Society It's located at 269 Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston, one block from MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital, which makes it ideal for SC families whose child is being treated there.The lodge offers 18 private guest rooms, and volunteers cook and provide meals regularly — the community meal program is so popular that the volunteer sign-up list stays packed weeks out.
American Cancer Society There's also wireless internet, shared common spaces, and ACS EMPOWER programming on-site which includes yoga, arts and crafts, cooking demonstrations, and emotional support activities — all free.To stay, your child must be in active outpatient cancer treatment. Ask your treatment center social worker or care team to submit a referral with your estimated treatment dates.
