Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston gives families a real home — private bedrooms, a full kitchen, free hot meals every day, laundry, Wi-Fi, a playroom, and even a house dog named Gardy — just steps from the hospital so you never have to choose between being at your child's bedside and having a safe place to sleep.

The suggested nightly donation is $67, but no family is ever turned away because they can't pay. If your child is on South Carolina Medicaid, the House may be able to bill directly through their health plan so the cost is covered entirely. Third-party donations are also accepted on your behalf.

To stay, your child must be 18 or younger and receiving inpatient or outpatient treatment in the Charleston area. A referral form from your child's medical provider is required — your hospital social worker or case manager can submit this for you and it's the fastest way to get on the waitlist. You can also call Guest Services directly at 📞 843-972-3411 to add your name to the waitlist yourself.

Because rooms can't be reserved in advance, they call you between 9 and 11 AM on the morning of your requested check-in date to let you know if a room is available. Waitlist priority goes to families with the most critical need. If a room isn't ready, they'll connect you with MUSC's hospitality team for backup options.

There is no onsite parking — MUSC garages are nearby, and MUSC Public Safety offers rides between the House and Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital.
