Camp Wakchazi is a free summer bereavement camp specifically for siblings ages 7-18 who have lost a brother or sister. Run by UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care team, this weeklong residential camp gives bereaved siblings a chance to connect with other kids who truly understand what they're going through.
The camp takes place in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania and provides a safe space where siblings can share their experiences, make new friends, and work through their grief with professional support. Kids participate in healing activities led by an interdisciplinary team including social workers, child life specialists, music therapists, art therapists, and medical providers. The camp runs June 7-12, 2026, and families can contact Melanie Szigethy directly to get their child registered.
