BumbleBee Foundation is a nonprofit born from one family's experience with childhood cancer, built to wrap real, practical support around every family facing a pediatric cancer diagnosis. They serve kids 18 and under currently in treatment or who completed treatment within the past year, and they have helped over 2,000 families since 2011.
Their biggest program is Patient Aid, and it is the kind of help that actually keeps families from falling apart. Through a hospital social worker referral, families in California or Idaho can receive assistance with rent and mortgage, utility bills, car repairs, medical bills not covered by insurance, gas cards, grocery cards, hospital parking vouchers, transportation reimbursements, counseling, hotel costs during long hospital stays, and even burial and funeral costs when the unthinkable happens. Over 300 families were helped last year alone. To get started, ask your child's social worker to contact BumbleBee Foundation directly at π§ info@bumblebeefoundation.org or π 805-374-2124.
Every year around the holidays, BumbleBee runs their Holiday BEEs program where volunteers shop for personalized wish list gifts for every child in the family, including siblings. Parents also receive a $100 Target gift card and a $100 gas card. The Spring Baskets program does the same thing around Easter. Both programs are local to the Conejo Valley in California and Treasure Valley in Idaho.
When a child is newly diagnosed and admitted to a partner hospital, families receive a BEEpack at the door. It is a bag filled with the basics that no one thinks to pack in a panic: shampoo, deodorant, lotion, hand sanitizer, lip balm, playing cards, window markers, and a Starbucks gift card for the exhausted parent sitting bedside. BEEpacks are distributed through over 20 partner hospitals in California and Idaho.
The BEEday Card program sends a personalized birthday card to any child currently fighting cancer anywhere in the country. It is a small thing that lands big. To request a card for your child visit bumblebeefoundation.org.
Kelli's Wagons provides a free wagon to families so kids can haul their belongings back and forth to the hospital without wearing themselves out. This program is local to Conejo Valley, CA and Treasure Valley, ID.
