After The Glow provides funding and support specifically for families battling retinoblastoma and other childhood cancers who are receiving treatment at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. This volunteer-run organization understands that childhood cancer treatment can last for years and includes monthly exams under anesthesia, MRIs, chemotherapy, laser therapy, and cryotherapy.
Beyond financial assistance, they focus heavily on raising awareness about retinoblastoma, the most common eye cancer in young children, since many doctors fail to recognize and screen for it during early appointments. Early detection is crucial for better outcomes. The organization was inspired by Liam, who was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma at just 6 months old, and consists of a community of friends, family, and corporate sponsors dedicated to helping families fight this rare cancer.
