13thirty Cancer Connect is a dedicated community for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) between the ages of 13 and 39 who are navigating a cancer diagnosis. Inspired by the legacy of Melissa Sengbusch, the organization focuses on helping young people "recover what was lost and discover what is possible. " They recognize that teens and young adults face unique social, emotional, and physical challenges that differ significantly from younger children or older adults.
Their programs are designed to build confidence, community, and healthy habits during and after treatment. The organization offers a wide variety of engaging activities at their centers in Rochester and Syracuse, New York, as well as virtual resources for those further away. Programs include "13thirty Fit" for physical wellness, peer-led "Taco 'Bout It" support discussions, expressive arts like watercolor weaving, and even comedy improv workshops to help survivors process their journey through humor.
They also offer the Melissa Sengbusch Inspiration Scholarship to support the educational dreams of those affected by cancer. By providing a safe space where AYAs can be themselves among peers who truly understand their experience, 13thirty helps young warriors maintain their identity and spirit throughout their medical journey.
