Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation was started by a little girl named Alex who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma before her first birthday. At age 4 she set up a lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research. By the time she passed away at age 8 she had raised over a million dollars. Her parents kept going and today ALSF is the largest independent childhood cancer charity in the country with over 300 million raised and nearly 30,000 families supported.
For families they offer several real tangible programs. Their Travel For Care program helps cover gas, hotel, and flight costs for families who must travel to access clinical trials or specialized treatment not available locally. The child must be diagnosed by age 18, under 21, and in active oncology treatment following a relapse or enrolled in a clinical trial. Applications must be submitted by a social worker or medical representative at alexslemonade.org/childhood-cancer/for-families.
Their SuperSibs program is completely free and sends special mailings, activities, and support directly to siblings of kids with cancer to help them feel seen and supported through the journey. They also have a Grief and Loss program that sends age appropriate support to siblings ages 4 to 18 who have lost a brother or sister to childhood cancer.
Through their Flashes of Hope program they offer free professional photo sessions to children being treated in the hospital, capturing memories that families will treasure forever.
They also offer a free Childhood Cancer Treatment Journal to help parents stay organized through treatment, free cancer specific guides explaining diagnosis and treatment, and a resource navigator who can help connect your family to support beyond what ALSF offers directly.
