The Dempsey Challenge is the flagship fundraising event for the Dempsey Center, founded by actor Patrick Dempsey after his mother's cancer diagnosis. This annual walk, run, and bike event raises funds to provide completely free holistic cancer support services to patients, survivors, caregivers, and families throughout Maine.
The Dempsey Center offers comprehensive wraparound services including counseling, support groups, bodywork, movement and fitness programs, nutrition support, comfort care items, wigs and headwear, and specialized youth and family services. They also provide practical support like their Dempsey Dogs therapy program and Space 2 Breathe respite services. All services are personalized and provided at no cost to anyone impacted by cancer, including children and families dealing with childhood cancer.
You can participate in the Challenge in person in Lewiston, Maine each September or virtually from anywhere. The event has raised nearly $20 million since its inception, with 100% of participant fundraising going directly to support these vital free services for Maine families facing cancer.
